Mischievous children are allegedly opening people’s gates to let their dogs out.
A troubling trend has emerged in the local community, with reports that schoolchildren are intentionally opening people’s front gates to let their dogs into the streets.
Pauline Lennon, an animal inspector at the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL), stated that this prank has led to a noticeable increase in stray dogs roaming freely.
In response, Lennon has taken immediate action by sending letters to local schools to address the issue. “We’ve urged schools to speak with the children during assembly, stressing that this behaviour is unacceptable and will have consequences,” she explained.
The AACL is not only concerned about the safety of the dogs but also the potential risks to the community. “Loose dogs can cause accidents, scare pedestrians, and even trigger dog fights,” Lennon cautioned.
Residents are encouraged to stay alert and report any stray dogs to the AACL.
As the AACL continues to monitor the situation, Lennon says that, “We appeal to the community to help us address this issue and keep our neighbourhoods safe for both humans and animals.”
