Did you know kittens can give birth to kittens?

At just a few months old, a young cat can have her first litter—usually between two and nine kittens! Since cats can reproduce up to three times a year, just a few unsterilized cats can quickly lead to a serious overpopulation problem.

To tackle this crisis, the SPCA veterinary team sterilised 101 cats in just one day, focusing on the under-resourced communities of Ottery and Parkwood.

Sterilisation is more than birth control – it also prevents diseases, reduces cancer risk, and relieves stress.

‘Sterilisation is about more than birth control — it’s disease prevention, cancer reduction, and stress relief,” explains SPCA vet Dr Deepali Narotam.
