The dance community is coming together for Dancers Love Dogs on Wednesday, September 11, at 7:30 PM at the Artscape Theatre, hosted by comedian Alan Committie.
This inspiring event supports a crucial cause: the mass sterilization of homeless animals, including dogs, cats, pigs, rabbits, and donkeys in crisis.
The showcase will feature over 300 dancers and 25 choreographers who have generously donated their time and talent. Participating groups include Cape Town City Ballet, Zama Dance School, Waterfront Theatre School, Eoan Group, LAMTA, Jazzart Dance Theatre, the Searle brothers, and more.
Special appearances will include search-and-rescue dog Jedi, the SA Guide Dogs Association, and South Africa’s smallest celebrity pooch, Mr Miyagee.
Founded in 2011 by Brigitte Reeve-Taylor, a dancer, teacher, choreographer, and entrepreneur, Dancers Love Dogs was born from her deep commitment to animal welfare. Her efforts have earned her widespread recognition, including Glamour magazine’s Woman of the Year award in 2016. Brigitte is also an ambassador for the Animal Welfare Society in Philippi, and the event even reached Los Angeles in 2018.
Over the past 13 years, Dancers Love Dogs has raised over R7 million, funding the sterilization of more than 25,000 animals.
As a PBO and NGO with limited resources, the organization relies on this annual event to generate essential funds for various animal welfare initiatives. Each ticket, priced at R390, covers the cost of one sterilization at a reduced rate, thanks to the generosity of compassionate veterinarians.
Brigitte’s partnership with the National Sterilisation Project has broadened Dancers Love Dogs’ impact, extending their efforts to even the most remote areas of South Africa.
Tickets are available through Webtickets. The event will also feature a lucky draw with exciting prizes, including a kayak tour, safari stay, hotel staycation, and theatre tickets. For more information, visit www.dancerslovedogs.co.za.
