GUIDE-DOG FUNDRAISER IN GLENASHLEY GOES ‘PAW’FECTLY

Marketing manager for the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind Ané Roux has described the blind pizza-tasting fundraiser for the association as a resounding success.
During the evening, at Pasha’s in Glenashley, guests were blindfolded and had to guess the name of the pizza based on how it tasted.
Roux said the event also offered an opportunity to create awareness about living with visual impairment.
“One of the ways in which we spread awareness about what the association does is by hosting various fundraisers and events like this one. We were absolutely blown away by the level of support shown by local residents on the evening. Based on this event’s success, we hope to make this a fixture on our calendar going forward. In all, we raised R12 000, which was phenomenal.
“Also great was that several people that evening asked us how to get involved. It was also a way for us to show what the association is all about. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the event. We also have a great relationship with Pasha’s, and we are grateful to them for their support,” she said.
Roux explained how the association works with puppies in training.
“We do not receive any government funding, and all the money raised will go towards training puppies in Guide-Dog training. The association breeds and trains guide-dogs, service dogs and Autism-support dogs. It takes approximately two years to train a puppy, and we tailor them to the needs of our clients,” she said.
