Bathing our dogs is an important part of living with them.

Dogs often enjoy rolling around in things we find dirty or smelly.

However, bathing your dog doesn’t have to disrupt your daily routine significantly.

According to the SPCA, it is generally recommended to bathe your dog every 1 to 3 months.

Some dogs may require more frequent bathing, such as those frequently outdoors or with specific skin conditions.

However, some owners admit to not bathing their dogs for a whole year, and their dogs (and their noses) haven’t had any issues as a result.

FACTORS TO CONSIDER WHEN SETTING BATHING TIMES

Dogs with short coats generally require less frequent bathing compared to those with medium to long coats.

Short-coated dogs may only need to be bathed every 1 to 3 months.

Long-coated dogs require more regular grooming and care due to the tendency for their fur to tangle and mat.

They may require weekly bathing in addition to regular grooming sessions.

Dogs with skin conditions may be prescribed a medical shampoo by the veterinarian.

The bathing regime, typically once to twice weekly, will be advised for a specific period.

These shampoos alleviate itching, discomfort, and address fungal and bacterial overgrowth.

In some cases, the shampoo alone may suffice for treatment, eliminating the need for oral medication.
