Absolute Pets has donated over R400 000 in dog food to four South African animal rescues, providing much-needed support during tough economic times for animal care.
Four South African animal rescue organisations were pleasantly surprised with a generous donation from national retailer Absolute Pets.
Each organisation received dog food valued at over R100,000.
The four organisations—Dead Animals Walking and Mdzananda from Cape Town, along with the Animal Anti-Cruelty League Johannesburg and New Hope Animal Rescue from Gauteng—were informed this week about the donation. This contribution acknowledges the vital work they do for animal welfare in their communities.
Genevieve Adams, the marketing manager at Absolute Pets, emphasised that animal welfare is at the heart of the company’s mission. “With 175 stores nationwide, we have a strong connection to local animal welfare communities across the country. Supporting their work is a major focus for us.”
As the cost of living rises, many South Africans are finding it challenging to care for their pets. This donation provides much-needed relief for these rescue centres, which depend on contributions to care for the animals.
New Hope Animal Rescue in Johannesburg received nearly 700 kg of dog food, valued at R156,075. Kevin Stirling, the manager of New Hope, expressed gratitude for the support: “We have a lot of work ahead in re-homing our dogs, and this generous donation enables us to continue housing, feeding, rehabilitating, and stimulating the nearly 80 dogs in our care.”
Carren Nickloes from the Animal Anti-Cruelty League added, “This support not only meets the animals’ immediate nutritional needs but also improves their overall well-being. We are profoundly grateful to Absolute Pets for their ongoing partnership and support.”
To date, Absolute Pets has donated over R1 million in pet food and products, and this week’s contribution marks their largest single donation. Witnessing the positive impact on both staff and animals has made these efforts worthwhile.
For the organisations involved, this donation signifies more than just food; it’s a lifeline that will enable them to continue their vital work in protecting and caring for animals in need.
