SA GUIDE-DOG ASSOCIATION RAISES FUNDS FOR ‘GIVE A CANE CAMPAIGN’

The South African Guide-Dog Association is on a mission to change 500 lives with their R50 ‘Give a Cane Campaign’ in celebration of 50 years changing lives!

2024 is a very special year for the SA Guide Dogs Association’s College of Orientation & Mobility (O&M). They are celebrating 50 years of training O&M Practitioners, having trained over 180 practitioners who have collectively reached over 100,000 visually impaired people.

The services have grown and shifted and in the past 10 years, they have offered direct services to the visually impaired community, providing approximately 7,000 assistive devices.

In this spirit, the Association is excited to launch the “Give a Cane” campaign, a nationwide endeavour aimed at raising R550,000 to purchase canes for the 500 visually impaired people on our waiting list.

The campaign is running from 8 April to 18 July, and they are asking valued donors and the public to get involved. By contributing a minimum of R50, your donation will enable them to continue their vital work, ensuring the training of more practitioners and clients for at least another 50 years, provide more assistive devices to those in need, and upholding commitment to freedom and independence.

How you can help:

• Come up with fun and interesting ways to raise funds for SA Guide-Dogs Association between 8 April and 18 July.
• Donate R50 or host fundraising events in your community and help the Association reach their goal and change lives.

Here are a few ideas:

• Donate R50
• Donation Drive. Each employee at the office donates R50.00 and appeals to others to do the same.
• Host a walk-a-thon, step-a-thon or blindfolded activity day at your office, office park, community or school.
• Host a casual day or dress up day at your office.
• Host a lucky draw in your community or office.
• Set up a collection box at your office or business.
• Set personal record by walking, running or cycling 50km and get sponsored.
• Take part in Online Gaming for SA Guide-Dogs.

You can do whatever you want to do. The possibilities are endless!

The SA Guide-Dog Association is able to provide a Section 18A Tax Certificate for donations received.
