To celebrate the end of harvest celebrations and to mark the beginning of autumn in South Africa, the Steenberg Trail Run will take place on Saturday 26 March. The run is held in support of the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind, aimed at improving the lives of visually and physically impaired people in South Africa.

SOUTH AFRICAN GUIDE-DOGS ASSOCIATION

The SA Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind was established in 1953 to train Guide Dogs, Service Dogs and Autism Support Dogs. According to the association’s website, it takes thousands of Rands to produce a qualified dog.

All funding for the SA Guide-Dogs Association comes from donations and their own fundraising efforts.

Previously, the association has hosted events like the SA Guide Dogs Telethon and the Step Up for Guide Dogs challenge to raise funds.

STEENBERG TRAIL RUN

Established in 1982, the Steenberg Farm was the Cape’s first farm and is the location for the Steenburg Trail Run. There will be a 5km and 10km run/walk that guides you through the sensory splendour of the changing colours and scents of the autumn vines.

There are various prizes up for grabs for the winners of the trail run/walk. There are also prizes for the best-dressed runners so get creative with those outfits!

At the end of the run, every runner will be rewarded with cuddles from the guide dogs in training and a refreshing glass of Steenberg Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc to celebrate.

Breakfast treats and piping hot coffee will be available for purchase before the start of the run and during the course of the morning from food and coffee trucks.

If you are interested in a sit-down breakfast, you can reserve your table at the Bistro Sixteen82 restaurant.

50% of the proceeds will be donated to the SA Guide-Dogs Association.
