Falling in love with a cat brings joy, but also responsibility.
You want the best for your beloved feline and need to know what’s safe to eat.
Can cats eat cinnamon? No, while cinnamon is not poisonous to cats according to SPCA, it’s not helpful for them either.
Small amounts are generally okay, but it’s not beneficial.
In large quantities, it could be harmful to cats.
WHY CINNAMON MIGHT NOT BE THE BEST FOR CATS
Cinnamon isn’t labelled as poisonous for cats by the ASPCA, but its effects depend on the form and amount.
Cinnamon contains coumarin, a substance that can be harmful in large doses for cats.
Eating too much cinnamon can result in mouth irritation, vomiting, diarrhea, low blood sugar, liver problems, heart rate changes, and even severe nervous system damage.
Inhaling cinnamon powder can lead to coughing, choking, breathing difficulties, and lung airway constriction.
The Pet Poison Helpline suggests it typically takes more than a teaspoon of cinnamon powder to cause problems in pets.
While an occasional, small lick of it might not hurt, it’s best to avoid giving it to your cat.
